The state’s Department of Public Health reported 90 deaths attributed to COVID-19 on Tuesday. The number represents deaths reported from Saturday through Monday, according to DPH.

The 7-day state positivity rate is now 3.09%.

There were 1,459 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts reported Tuesday.

As of Tuesday, 882 people were hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 168 were in intensive care units and 77 were intubated.

DPH also released its latest weekly report on “breakthrough” COVID cases.

6,494 news cases in fully vaccinated people were reported. There were 244 hospitalizations among the cases.

190 deaths in fully vaccinated people were also reported in the last week.

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Monday that the 7-day positivity rate is now down to 3.0% – a rate not seen since mid-November.

There were also 66 new deaths reported and 3,863 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 22,188.

As of Monday, 1,024 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 188 were in intensive care units and 94 were intubated.

53 new deaths were reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Friday that there were 53 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 22,122.

DPH also reported 2,499 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 1,518,669 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported Friday that 81,787 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has given out 39,974,870 total molecular tests for the virus.

As of Friday, 1,062 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 193 were in intensive care units and 107 were intubated.

The 7-day positivity rate is now 3.74%.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is out with its latest COVID case report.

On Thursday, DESE reported 5,634 positive student cases, and 1,089 staff cases during the period between February 3 – February 9.

That’s 0.61% of students and 0.78% of staff.

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Thursday that there were 61 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

DPH also reported 2,611 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

The positivity rate also dropped Thursday. It is now 3.80%

As of Thursday, 1,161 people are hospitalized. Of these patients, 213 were in intensive care units and 121 were intubated.

69 new deaths were reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that there were 69 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 22,008.

DPH also reported 2,794 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 1,513,559 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that 97,220 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has given out 39,809,116 total molecular tests for the virus.

As of Wednesday, 1,234 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 210 were in intensive care units and 125 were intubated.

The 7-day positivity rate is now 4.08%.

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Tuesday that there were 128 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

Those deaths were reported Saturday through Monday to health officials and added to the state COVID dashboard on Tuesday.

DPH also reported 1,792 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

The 7-day positivity rate has dropped again and is now 4.53% – a rate last seen in late November.

1,325 people are hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 217 were in intensive care units and 122 were intubated.

The state also released its weekly report on “breakthrough cases” on Tuesday.

12,262 new cases of COVID in vaccinated people were reported. There were 350 hospitalizations among those cases and 243 deaths reported among vaccinated people over the last week.

The state’s Department of Public Health reported that there were 56 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Those deaths were reported Friday to health officials and released Monday.

DPH also reported 6,725 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. The testing data is from Friday-Sunday.

The 7-day positivity rate is now 4.78% and has reached a level not reported since late November 2021.

1,482 people are hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 253 were in intensive care units and 148 were intubated.

63 new deaths were reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Friday that there were 63 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 21,755.

DPH also reported 4,195 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 1,502,258 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported Friday that 91,672 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has given out 39,493,088 total molecular tests for the virus.

As of Friday, 1,583 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 264 were in intensive care units and 153 were intubated.

The 7-day positivity rate is now 5.63%.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is out with its latest COVID case report.

On Thursday, DESE reported 10,068 positive student cases, and 1,918 staff cases during the period between January 27 – February 2.

That’s 1.09% of students and 1.37% of staff.

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Thursday that there were 59 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

DPH also reported 4,829 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

The positivity rate also dropped Thursday. It is now 5.89%

As of Thursday, 1,661 people are hospitalized. Of these patients, 273 were in intensive care units and 161 were intubated.

87 new confirmed deaths reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that there were 87 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 21,633.

DPH also reported 4,973 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 1,493,244 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that 106,771 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has given out 39,303,284 total molecular tests for the virus.

As of Wednesday, 1,799 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 298 were in intensive care units and 176 were intubated.

The 7-day positivity rate is now 6.37%.

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Tuesday that there were 127 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That number represents deaths reported Saturday-Monday.

DPH also reported 2,628 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. The 7-day positivity rate is now 7.13%, down slightly from the day before.

As of Monday, 1,954 people remained hospitalized for COVID-19. Of these patients, 307 were in intensive care units and 191 were intubated.

The state also updated its weekly “breakthrough” cases report.

There were 27,530 COVID-19 cases reported in fully-vaccinated people since last Tuesday and there were 555 hospitalizations among those cases.

290 deaths were reported in breakthrough cases over the last week.

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Monday that there were 83 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 21,419.

DPH also reported 12,127 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Case and testing data from Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are added to the dashboard on Monday.

The 7-day positivity rate is now 7.43%.

As of Monday, 2,202 people remained hospitalized for COVID-19. Of these patients, 348 were in intensive care units and 219 were intubated.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is out with its latest COVID case report.

On Thursday, DESE reported 18,536 positive student cases, and 3,150 staff cases during the period between January 20 – January 26.

That’s 2.01% of students and 2.25% of staff.

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Thursday that there were 84 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

DPH also reported 8,616 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

The positivity rate also dropped Thursday. It is now 9.48%

As of Thursday, 2,521 people are hospitalized. Of these patients, 396 were in intensive care units and 237 were intubated.

80 new deaths reported in Mass., but positivity rate continues to trend downward

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that there were 80 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 21,187.

DPH also reported 7,918 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 1,457,699 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that 118,076 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has given out 38,727,775 total molecular tests for the virus.

As of Wednesday, 2,617 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 405 were in intensive care units and 248 were intubated.

The 7-day positivity rate is now 10.37%.

145 new deaths reported in Mass., but positivity rate continues to trend downward

There were 145 new deaths reported by the state’s Department of Public Health on Tuesday, bringing the total number of deaths to 21,107. Additionally, officials reported 7,120 new confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The state also released its weekly “breakthrough case” count on Tuesday, which now stands at 394,602 cases overall. The number of new breakthrough cases over the last week stand at 46,092. That is 7.6% of all fully vaccinated individuals in the state. Of that number, only 0.11% of those people have been hospitalized, and 0.03% have died as a result.

Also on Tuesday the state reported that 2,688 patients are currently being treated in the hospital – with 399 of those in the ICU, and 250 of those patients being intubated.

The state’s positivity rate continues to trend downward – Tuesday it stood at 11.40%.

78 new confirmed deaths reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Monday that there were 78 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 20,962.

DPH also reported 24,512 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 1,442,661 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported Friday that 243,709 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has given out 38,537,135 total molecular tests for the virus.

As of Friday, 2,984 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 433 were in intensive care units and 254 were intubated.

The 7-day positivity rate is now 11.72%.

102 new confirmed deaths reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Friday that there were 102 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 20,884.

DPH also reported 13,935 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 1,418,149 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported Friday that 134,317 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has given out 38,293,426 total molecular tests for the virus.

As of Friday, 3,105 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 466 were in intensive care units and 269 were intubated.

The 7-day positivity rate is now 13.70%.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is out with its latest COVID case report.

On Thursday, DESE reported 28,151 positive student cases, and 4,758 staff cases during the period between January 13 – January 19.

That’s 3.06% of students and 3.40% of staff.

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Thursday that there were 86 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

DPH also reported 14,384 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

The positivity rate also dropped Thursday. It is now 15.03%

As of Thursday, 3,144 people are hospitalized. Of these patients, 462 were in intensive care units and 278 were intubated.

199 new confirmed deaths reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that there were 199 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts since Saturday, Jan. 15. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 20,696.

DPH also reported 14,647 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 1,389,830 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that 109,567 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has given out 38,031,854 total molecular tests for the virus.

As of Wednesday, 3,187 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 475 were in intensive care units and 284 were intubated.

The 7-day positivity rate is now 16.70%.

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Tuesday that there were 47 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Massachusetts to 20,497.

DPH also reported 56,489 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

The positivity rate dropped Tuesday. It is now 17.44%

As of Tuesday, 3,192 people are hospitalized. Of these patients, 466 were in intensive care units and 290 were intubated.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health issued the following notice for January 18′s numbers:

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Thursday that there were 64 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Massachusetts to 20,450.

DPH also reported 12,864 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

The positivity rate dropped Friday. It is now 19.90%

As of Thursday, 3,223 people are hospitalized. Of these patients, 460 were in intensive care units and 279 were intubated.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health issued the following notice for January 14′s numbers:

Today’s COVID-19 data are incomplete. Network connectivity issues on Thursday, January 13, 2022, affecting some state agencies, resulted in a substantial percentage of laboratory results not being reported into the Massachusetts Virtual Epidemiologic Network (MAVEN). DPH also reported 18,721 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That is down several thousand from Wednesday.

The positivity rate also dropped Thursday. It is now 20.34%

As of Thursday, 3,180 people are hospitalized. Of these patients, 484 were in intensive care units and 278 were intubated.

75 new confirmed deaths reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that there were 75 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 20,350.

DPH also reported 22,184 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 1,287,109 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that 120,643 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has given out 37,372,390 total molecular tests for the virus.

As of Wednesday, 3,087 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 473 were in intensive care units and 271 were intubated.

The 7-day positivity rate is now 21.67%.

The latest DPH report on “breakthrough” COVID-19 cases is out, and shows an increase of 82,466 new COVID cases in people who were fully vaccinated. That’s 5.1% of all fully vaccinated people.

The report also shows hospitalizations increased week-to-week by 644 people.

112 more deaths were attributed to the new cases. That is about 0.02% of all fully vaccinated people.

COVID-19 cases in vaccinated people are counted as those who test positive more than 14 days after the final dose of vaccine.

The state says that as of January 9, 2022 there were 5,125,836 fully vaccinated people and there were 262,060 cases in vaccinated people

4,553 of those 262,060 cases resulted in hospitalization and 1,054 cases resulted in death based on information reported to date, says DPH.

Also Tuesday, the state reported 116 new COVID-19 related deaths in its daily dashboard. The total deaths for the pandemic now sits at 20,275 people.

The 7-day positivity rate is now 22.78%

17,802 new confirmed COVID cases were reported on Tuesday.

452 people are in the ICU and 270 patients are intubated, according to DPH.

53 new confirmed deaths reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Monday that there were 53 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

DPH also reported 61,986 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

The state positivity rate is now 22.39%.

2,923 people are hospitalized in Massachusetts with COVID, according to DPH, with 432 patients in the ICU.

55 new confirmed deaths reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Friday that there were 55 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 20,106.

DPH also reported 26,187 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 1,186,137 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported Friday that 116,224 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has given out 36,861,952 total molecular tests for the virus.

As of Friday, 2,637 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 421 were in intensive care units and 245 were intubated.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests increased to 23.02% Friday, up from 22.3% Thursday.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is out with its latest COVID case report, and the numbers have spike dramatically.

On Thursday, DESE reported 38,887 positive student cases, and 12,213 staff cases during the two week period between December 23-January 5.

That’s 4.24% of students and 8,72% of staff.

Also on Thursday, the Department of Public Health reported 24,570 new confirmed COVID cases, bringing the state total since the start of the pandemic to more than 1.1 million cases.

There were 43 new deaths attributed to COVID-19.

2,524 people are hospitalized, and 416 are in the ICU, according to DPH.

The 7 day positivity rate is now 22.43%

Massachusetts has now marked more than 20,000 deaths linked to COVID-19.

The announcement came Wednesday in the release of the latest COVID data from the State Department of Public Health.

54 deaths were reported Wednesday, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 20,008.

The state marked its first case of the “2019 novel coronavirus” on February 1, 2020.

It was confirmed in a man returning from Wuhan, China who was in his 20s and lived in Boston.

The first death in Massachusetts from the disease came on March 20, 2020 when a man in his 80′s from Suffolk County died. At the time, DPH said the man had been hospitalized and had pre-existing health conditions that put him at higher risk for COVID-19.

On that day, Governor Charlie Baker released a statement that said “I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends who lost their loved one. We are living in uncertain and challenging times, and our administration is bringing every available resource to bear in the fight against this disease, and remind everyone in our Commonwealth to continue to work together, follow social distance protocols and look after each other to keep our communities safe.”

Massachusetts marked it 10,000th death related to COVID on November 2, 2020.

Massachusetts has recorded 1,135,380 confirmed positive cases, after reporting 27,612 new cases Wednesday

The seven day positivity rate is now 22.06%.

There are 2,426 people hospitalized and 427 in the ICU.

The average age of those dying, according to DPH, is 73 years old

The latest DPH report on “breakthrough” COVID-19 cases is out, and shows an increase of 45,029 new COVID cases in people who were fully vaccinated. That’s 3.5% of all fully vaccinated people.

The report also shows hospitalizations increased week-to-week by 370 people.

88 more deaths were attributed to the new cases. That is about 0.02% of all fully vaccinated people.

COVID-19 cases in vaccinated people are counted as those who test positive more than 14 days after the final dose of vaccine.

The state says that as of January 2, 2022 there were 5,090,635 fully vaccinated people and there were 179,594 cases in vaccinated people.

3,909 of those 179,594 cases resulted in hospitalization and 942 cases resulted in death based on information reported to date, says DPH.

Also Tuesday, the state reported 94 new COVID-19 related deaths in its daily dashboard. The total deaths for the pandemic now sits at 19,954 people.

The 7-day positivity rate is now 21.62%

16,621 new confirmed COVID cases were reported on Tuesday.

441 people are in the ICU and 262 patients are intubated, according to DPH.

39 new confirmed deaths reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Monday that there were 39 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

DPH also reported more than 31,000 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

The state positivity rate is now 19.87%

2,200 people are hospitalized in Massachusetts with COVID, according to DPH, with 402 patients in the ICU.

More than 5 million people are now “fully vaccinated” in Massachusetts, meaning they have had 2 doses of Moderna or Pfizer vaccine or 1 dose of Janssen (J&J) vaccine.

Some 2.1 million people have received booster doses.

48 new confirmed deaths reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Friday that there were 48 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 19,821.

DPH also reported 21,397 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 1,059,963 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported Friday that 113,963 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has given out 36,269,164 total molecular tests for the virus.

As of Friday, 1,954 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 387 were in intensive care units and 243 were intubated.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests increased to 18.42% Friday, up from 16.44% Thursday.

36 new confirmed deaths reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Thursday that there were 36 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 19,773.

DPH also reported 21,137 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 1,038,566 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported Thursday that 119,292 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has given out 36,155,201 total molecular tests for the virus.

As of Thursday, 1,817 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 382 were in intensive care units and 250 were intubated.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests increased to 16.44% Thursday, up from 13.58% Wednesday.

45 new confirmed deaths reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that there were 45 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 19,737.

DPH also reported 15,163 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 1,017,429 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that 91,974 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has given out 36,035,909 total molecular tests for the virus.

As of Wednesday, 1,711 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus statewide. Of these patients, 392 were in intensive care units and 245 were intubated.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests increased to 13.58% Wednesday, up from 11.08% Tuesday.

Also breaking Wednesday, DPH announced new guidelines related to isolation and quarantine for healthcare workers in Massachusetts.

“The Department of Public Health has released updated guidance regarding isolation and quarantine for healthcare workers. Effective immediately, fully vaccinated, asymptomatic health care providers and health care personnel may return to work 5 days following a positive COVID test. Additionally, acute care, hospital-based healthcare staff are not required to have a negative COVID test before returning to work,” according to a spokesperson.

The state says the updated isolation guidance applies to healthcare settings as defined by the CDC, including, acute care facilities, long-term acute care facilities, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes and assisted living residences, home healthcare, vehicles where healthcare is delivered, and outpatient facilities, such as dialysis centers, physician offices, and others.

The soldiers’ homes in Chelsea and Holyoke are included in this guidance.

This guidance does not apply to group homes, residential treatment programs, community-based acute residential treatment programs, and clinical stabilization service programs.

BREAKING: The state of Massachusetts has just announced a grim pandemic milestone.

The state has now topped 1 million confirmed COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic in 2020.

The state’s COVID dashboard now shows 1,002,266 cases, after reporting 9,228 cases on Tuesday.

There were also 63 new confirmed COVID deaths reported bringing the pandemic total to 19,692.

On Tuesday, the state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests jumped to 11.08%.

State’s 7-day positivity rate jumps entire percentage point over holiday weekend

The state continues to see large increases in COVID-19 cases as the latest surge continues across the country. On Monday the state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests jumped to 9.49% – more than an entire percentage higher than before the holiday weekend.

The state’s Department of Public Health also reported 25 new deaths Monday – bringing the total to 19,629. There were also 12,983 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. Currently, there are 1,636 patients being treated in the hospital. Among those people, 378 are in the ICU and 378 are intubated.

Massachusetts has had 993,038 confirmed cases on COVID-19 since the pandemic began in March 2020.

32 new confirmed deaths reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Friday that there were 32 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 19,604.

DPH also reported 10,040 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 980,055 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported Friday that 122,785 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has given out 35,763,113 total molecular tests for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests increased to 7.02% Wednesday, up from 5.91% Monday.

State hits highest positivity rate since January

The positivity rate for COVID-19 cases in the state jumped up Tuesday to 6.45% – the highest it has been since January 13 of this year.

According to the state’s Department of Public Health, there were 5,531 new confirmed cases on Tuesday. There were also 58 new confirmed deaths, bringing the total to 19,492.

Tuesday also saw 1,212 patients in the hospital – a jump of 99 people from Monday. Currently, 368 of those patients are in the ICU, and 203 patients are intubated.

The rise in cases comes as Gov. Baker announced that he will be activating 500 members of the Massachusetts National Guard to help hospitals and transportation, as well as recommending that all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, wear a mask of face-covering in indoor, public spaces.

28 new confirmed deaths reported in MA

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Monday that there were 28 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to 19,434.

DESE says 7,223 students, 1,153 teachers reported COVID cases in the last week

The state’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education reported Thursday that 7,223 students have reported positive cases of COVID-19 between Dec. 9 and Dec. 15. Additionally, DESE said that 1,153 teachers have reported positive cases of COVID-19 between those same dates.

“More than 2,200 public and private schools across the Commonwealth are participating in COVID testing of students and staff members being offered at no cost by the state, either rapid testing, pooled testing, test and stay, or a combination of all three,” DESE wrote. “This is more than double the number of schools that participated in testing last year.”

There are an estimated 920,000 students — 185,000 more than were in school last spring — and 140,000 teachers participating in in-person learning in MA public and private school buildings, meaning that 0.79% of students and 0.82% of teachers have reported COVID-19 cases.

30 new confirmed deaths reported in MA

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health on Tuesday released the latest data on the number of breakthrough COVID-19 cases in the state.

As of Dec. 11, there have been 100,399 cumulative breakthrough cases in the commonwealth, accounting for roughly 2.02% of fully vaccinated individuals. It’s also an increase of more than 11,000 breakthrough cases from the cumulative report a week ago, which showed 88,968 breakthrough cases in the state.

State releases latest data on breakthrough cases

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health on Tuesday released the latest data on the number of breakthrough COVID-19 cases in the state.

As of Dec. 4, there have been 88,968 cumulative breakthrough cases in the commonwealth, accounting for roughly 1.8% of fully vaccinated individuals. It’s also an increase of more than 11,000 breakthrough cases from the cumulative report a week ago, which showed 77,647 breakthrough cases in the state.

Of those total cases, 2,716 resulted in hospitalizations while 647 people with breakthrough cases in the state have died since January 2021, DPH reported.

That’s the first time the state has had a positivity rate above 5% since January 22, 2021. Just yesterday the commonwealth saw the positivity rate increase to above 4% for the first time since January 27, 2021.

Mass. DPH also reported that there were 25 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 19,016.

DPH also reported 4,838 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the commonwealth has seen 860,280 total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.
