A statue of late music promoter Michael Gudinski has officially been unveiled at Melbourne’s Olympic Park.
At the ceremony, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews spoke of how he had formed a friendship – not just a professional relationship – with Mr Gudiniski by working with him.
“Michael Gudinski was an amazing Victorian, an amazing Aussie,” Mr Andrews said.
“He was a leader in his field, he was a proud Melburnian.
“He was a person of impact and he was my friend.”
Mr Andrews said he missed Mr Gudinski every day and that anyone who knew him was better off for having met the passionate music promoter.
“We almost couldn’t build a statue big enough, such is his presence,” the premier said.
Mr Andrews asid Mr Gudinski would want him to acknowledge how challenging the past couple of years had been on the live music industry.
He said the industry was so important to Victoria’s identity and economy.
